Availability of Alcohol

Nationwide, 64% of American 8th Grade students report that alcohol is either “fairly easy” or “very easy” to get. This number increases to 81% of 10th graders and over 92% for high school seniors. (1)
In 2009, 39% of teens reported that they get their alcohol from their friends, or their friend’s homes. 23% reported getting it from their own homes, 5% purchased it from stores and 6% received it at parties. (3)
50% of all teens, and 59% of teens over the age of 16 that find themselves away from home after 10pm, report that alcohol is a part of their activities. School nights are not that big of a deterrent. Of kids who return home after 8pm on school nights, 29% say that alcohol is present and being used wherever they are. Of those who return home after 10pm, fully one-half report that alcohol is being used where they are. (2)
